Dear Margaret,
I loved your column on Layton’s Legacy. Spot on about civility. True that the NDP has to get it s act together — and in the absence of Jack, hmmmm… what will it be? It seems precarious.
A good leader is so important, and it seems, there are not too many of them in public office these days. One minor/major thing: Harper won a ‘majority’ of seats, but those seats don’t represent a majority of Canadians. As long as you and others in the media keep saying “Mr. Harper’s sizable majority” the Harper Govt is going to continue to delude themselves — and other Canadians — that a majority of Canadians elected him, when in fact, the majority of Canadians did not. The elected govt is going to continue to think they have a blank check to do whatever they want. Because of your platform and readership, you have a special opportunity to remind everyone that this majority is not a majority, . . . . and that there are plenty of Canadians whose voices and wishes are not heard, or seen, or listened to by this ‘majority’ government.
