Stories of Us

Stories help us make sense of our world. Across all cultures, the powerful exchange between the teller and the listener is something we are tuned into even as infants.  Sharing my work through stories and giving women a voice – these are things that make my life meaningful.

 

With this podcast series, I share many of the stories I’ve gathered, written and performed onstage in my international touring. You can tune in most Thursdays to hear a new voice; a different story; another woman at a pivotal point in her life, as she shares a moment that changes her. The series features a variety of first-person character stories in a number of episodes:  Next of Kin, Six Palm Trees, Stories for a Winter Solstice, The Life We Lived, Just a Little Fever, and Singing the Bones.

In Read Island Santa, The voices of Sunshine Coast residents and old timers, Cynthia Culbard Jones and Diana Culbard Peters are combined in this short about their first Christmas in the 30s at Read Island – so far away that Santa would never find them. And yet, a man named Mr. Green visits their school house on Christmas Eve and surprises everyone, ‘even the old bachelors’. It’s a charming tale about the blissfully gullible soul of a child &one of life’s early lesson in unfairness.  What is Christmas if it doesn’t have a bit of magical imagination?
